Neurodiversity SIGs: Championing leading speakers in the field

HATCHED founder Helena Territt is a Lead Coordinator of the EMCC’s (European Mentoring and Coaching Council) Neurodiversity Special Interest Group.

EMCC’s recent blog post celebrates their Special Interest Groups (SIGs) and the collaborations they are promoting.

“Our special interest groups (SIGs) offer members a vibrant, ever-evolving space to connect through a shared passion, topic or subject area. These groups are more than just gatherings. They’re incubators for new ideas, cross-disciplinary collaboration, and insightful conversation. Whether you come along to an event to explore something new, or simply connect with peers, SIGs offer a unique environment where learning and innovation thrive side by side.

We’re sharing reflections from a few of our SIG coordinators – the volunteers who help make these spaces possible. They reflect on what makes their SIGs valuable, how collaboration takes root across roles, and what innovation really means in their context. From small takeaways to big shifts in thinking, their words celebrate what happens when people come together with curiosity and a shared interest.

Helena Territt and Rachel Westerbeek write: ‘The Neurodiversity SIG has a wide range of members. They include qualified neurodiversity coaches and mentors; non-specialists with neurodivergent clients; coaches and mentors who are ‘neurodiversity adjacent’ (they have neurodivergent family members or close friends), or who are not sure if they are neurodivergent; and plenty of people who just want to continue their professional development.

This rich mix means we have debated language and labels, discussed burnout and masking, and explored topics such as whether it is necessary to be specially trained to work with neurodivergent clients. We have been lucky enough to host podcasts with such eminent thinkers as David Giwerc (ADDCA), and Almuth McDowall, the author of Neurodiversity Coaching, among many others’.
